Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2007/09/07 20:15yes it is it was reserved for Hawaiian royalty at one time, I believe cant be sure about all these traditions and legends sometimes
Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2007/11/19 01:24 These are all so lovely - I hope that Kihalani will continue to share more of these gorgeous Hibiscus photos from Hawaii.
I have just had to prune my tropical varieties of Hibiscus so that I could squeeze them into my glasshouse for the winter.
It broke my heart to have to chop them back, they were blooming so beautifully.
Hibiscus rosa sinensis - El Capitolio 'Tequila Sunrise' is one of my favorite doubles, instead of just having extra petals, it looks like a flower bursting out of a flower.
Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2007/11/19 01:33Another favorite of mine, "Waltzing Ladies" - Hibiscus schizopetalus, a species with frilly, recurved petals. I used to see them pretty often in Florida when I was growing up. But it seems to have gone out of style, and I don't see them too often when I visit there now.
Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2007/11/19 11:44Wow, Zuzu, those are really beautiful I love them all, but the Tequilla Sunrise is especially very "fluffy" (I like "fluffy" )
Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2007/12/19 20:58Mmmm, that's a very tasty color!
kihalani wrote: ... I have learned from experience to avoid tequila OH yeah! I'm on the same page with you, there. As some of the local (hard-drinking) rednecks say - thur's a reason they call it "ta-kill-ya".
I kinda go for the fluffy ones too, zwaluw - pix taken in summer:
I have this one labeled "Peach Blow", but someone at another site suggested that it might be a variety called "Jane Cowel" - so now I'm uncertain, maybe Kihalani can tell me??
And here's the non-tequila-drinkers version of "ElCapitolio"
Re:Hibiscus in Hawaii - 2008/01/02 20:04Hi this is Uta from the cold old Germany and Iam ill with the Hibiscusvirus. Unfortunately Hibiscus rosa sinensis here can hold only in house while wintertime. I own about 40 small plants now and Iam looking for people who can help me, to resize my collection. Here are some pics I made. Many greetings from Uta
...sorry I have to find out how to upload now. Thought I could use the jpg-format as home
