Looking for Belize Indigenous Plants

Question For Discussion - 2006/09/15 15:49 Indeed just wondering what platns other poeple have in thier gardens & houses & why you choosed them. Myself I like some of the more unusual platns like
Lithops, Proteus, Sword Sansevaria, Succulents, & Orchids.

I've Bougainvillea (five differtent), Meyers Lemon, Purple Foutnain Grass,
Japanese Blood Grass, a huge red Amaryllis, Bearded Iris, Japanese Iris,
Daylilies, English Ivy, a Lacy Leaf Japanese Red Maple, a couple of miniature roses, a Mostly Wild Rose, a red Geranium, a cuople of portulaca plkants (1 with the mealies from hell livin in it), a Holly hedge & a hedge I have no idea what it is, and a few trees in the yard. I will be unnaturally platning some Irish Moss and some other type of grtound cover that will fill up a shady and semi damp area fast this spring. I would like to busily overseed the grass with a nice winter grass and I will plant coneflowers, columbines, lavendar, dill, a few rosemary plasnts, some hot pink castor bean plants,
Flamingo Faehter Celosia, and some Black Dragon Coleus. I seem to lean towars the proudly red-pink-purple area of the spectrum.

For inside I have several species and hybrid Orchids, several different succulents, a Cadrboard Palm, a Ponytail Palm, a Tillandsai, a Pencil
Cactus, Sword Sansevaria, a Dancing Ladies Gigner (which will go outside this comin spring or summer), and a combaitoin pot of badly wandering Jew and
Aiprlane Plant. I will be startin some tomateos (4 kinds which do well in contiauners), sevceral kinds of cacti, lithops, sepmervuim, Protea nerifolia,
Protea grandiceps.

And just for fun and to see if I can I will start some Pistachio, Boabab,
Red sweetly sealing Wax Palm, Giant Sequoia, and Bristlecone Pine trees. And I have on the way a Euphorbai caled Red Bird Plant or Devil's Backbone about which
I know very little. By the way, any dvice or help is aprecaited on any of these plants.

I hope to have a yard and house full of interestin plants and flowers someday. This is very much a learnin experience for me as well as a hobby and way to keep busy.

re:Question For Discussion - 2006/09/15 21:34 Despite that nursuries around here are the same. We do see ginger & I think ginko aruond some time. We're zone nine & sort of semi tropical. Don't know about rue though. Most of my plants come from mail order, garage sales and the local Lowe's or Home Depot.
