What kind of lei is appropriate for a funeral? - 2010/06/30 13:30 My family is originally from Hawaii, but is now settled on the mainland. My aunt just passed away and I wanted to create a lei instead of a regular flower arrangement. I've seen leis at other funerals, but I don't know which flowers/types are appropriate. I'd hate to give something that represents 'long life and happiness' to someone who is now deceased. Anyone know what would work and what wouldn't?

Plumeria is probably easier to get in the mainland, and also appropriate. A lei that you could keep around the home for men is the kukui nut lei (polished seeds that don't need to be thrown away after wearing). Aloha.
