Looking for Belize Indigenous Plants - 2010/01/26 09:48 Hi,
Can anyone suggest a good resource for indigenous/local plants for Central America? I am looking for flowering plants, orchids, palms, and edible flowers mainly for sunny conditions with longest bloom possible? The showier the better. : )
I am in need of something with photos and growth/habit/plant shape/bloom information. A bit of a tall order I know!
Baring anyone knowing where I can access this information/book etc., is anyone here from Central America and has some good suggestions for plants?
Thanks for any and all assistance.
All the pics I have looked at here are beautiful.
Thanks so much and I wish all of you well. Beh

Re:Looking for Belize Indigenous Plants - 2010/01/26 19:00 Hello Beh, and welcome.
I'm not quite sure that I understand your request,
are you trying to find an informational site to aid you in researching plants native to that part of the world - or are you seeking an online catalogue so that you can purchase those plants?

As for researching native plants - I usually find that I get the best results by searching for a list specific to each country (i.e. Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, etc...) rather than searching using a larger region such as "Central America", and it is even helpful to define the search further if possible - such as specifying plants that grow in mountainous areas or coastal regions, as the lists can be very different.

I'm not aware of any (active) members of this forum who actually live in that region - but perhaps you would find some help by joining a forum such as this one: http://central-america-forum.com/ whose members are living in Central America.

Hope that helps - or perhaps someone else will post with some better advice.
