Hibiscus in Hawaii
The cyclamen have arrived!

Looking for place that sells Hibiscus arrangements - 2008/12/21 10:05 Hi I found your site by trying to find a place online that sells Hibiscus flower arrangements. I couldnt find a single one. Actually I don't even know how hibiscus would look in an arrangement or if they would even stay alive long enough.

If you know of any websites I could checkout or any numbers I could call that would be great!

Also, I live in San Jose, CA but the flowers will be going to the LA area or maybe even Las Vegas, so if there is a way I can have them arranged in one of those cities instead of San Jose that would be awesome!

Also if the flowers can be shipped safely from say Hawaii or something that would be ok too, as long as they were still fresh looking once they arrived.

Cost doesn't matter, it's as a gift that's beginning to look impossible to find haha! So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re:Looking for place that sells Hibiscus arrangements - 2008/12/21 18:36 Hi Allen,
I wish that I could give you some help with your quest, it sounds as though it would be a spectacular arrangement.

However, Hibiscus flowers are extremely ephemeral and "short-lived",
lasting for only a day or so (even on the shrub), before curling up and dropping to the ground to be replaced by the next opening flowers.
As you can imagine, this makes them rather unsuitable for the florist trade.

Ironically, they are wonderful as decorative cut flowers...
... in the very short term,
say as an adornment laid upon a tabletop,
or fixed in the hair, as you so often see the beautiful Hawaiian ladies do ...
in cases such as these, the flower will retain it's fresh appearance
for a number of hours with no supply of water what-so-ever,
but then will close up naturally, to be discarded.

I think that if you feel very strongly about making a gift of Hibiscus blooms,
you might do best to search for a vendor who will ship a live, blooming plant ...
perhaps incorporated as part of a living arrangement.

Good luck and best wishes.

Re:Looking for place that sells Hibiscus arrangements - 2008/12/21 20:54 Thank you so much for the quick response!

I actually found a vendor of the potted hibiscus who has about 100 varieties in FL somewhere. But I also think that I will need them before they are actually blooming. I need them for sometime in Feb 09. That's why I was thinking to have them shipped from Hawaii if possible, but they won't last that long, haha!

Thanks for your help though and I might have to get some silk flowers but its better than nothing I guess!

Re:Looking for place that sells Hibiscus arrangements - 2008/12/22 00:07 Ok, well I just found out that those are her SECOND most favorite flowers.... lol

Her first are lilies! Those are MUCH easier to find and look great in arrangements... so I think I'm in the clear here! Thanks for the help again!

Re:Looking for place that sells Hibiscus arrangements - 2008/12/22 19:13 You are most welcome Allen.

Oh yes, Lilies will be much easier to find,
they are a year 'round staple for virtually every florist.

Still, if your friend is Hibiscus-crazy (as I am ),
well, one of these days, you may want to give her a live plant ... a gift that keeps giving, so to speak.
