What is this flower?

please help - fragrant flower - 2008/06/09 09:30 I saw this fragrant flower in a nursery in Tobago. I would be most thankful if somebody could tell me what species it is and if I can buy it in Canada.

Thank you, medved

Re:please help - fragrant flower - 2008/06/09 19:32 I saw it in Louis D'Or Nurseries and it may not be native to Tobago. Here is a second image that better shows the foliage.

Thanks, medved

Re:please help - fragrant flower - 2008/06/10 04:17 That, I believe, is Cananga odorata -
it is commonly called "Ylang Ylang" and the tree truly is tropical,
requiring temperatures of 4.5°C/40°F or above.

I'll bet the fragrance was lovely,
the essential oil from Ylang Ylang is one of the ingredients in numerous perfumes,
including Chanel No.5.

Yes, the tree in my picture is "Ylang Ylang" for sure.
