Identify this plant - 2008/04/10 01:40 Hi dlfcity4. Welcome!

I believe that the plant in your picture
is likely to be Camellia sinensis
which is the member of the Camellia family
also called the "Tea Plant",
because it's leaves are the source of black tea.

I have to admit that I still have some doubts about this ID, zwaluw.
C. sinensis is a bit of a guess, on my part ...
Camellia (of some sort) was my first impression,
it differs from any of the C. japonicas which I grow,
but as you say, it isn't really quite like the white
sinensis either, or even the rosea variety,
so I'm still a bit puzzled.

Honestly, the more that I look at the photo,
the more I doubt I guessed right,
the bud cluster doesn't seem right at all,
maybe it is something entirely different which just happens
to resemble Camellia.

Re:Identify this plant - 2008/04/11 18:04 thanks for your responses. I have done some surfing of images of camellia Sinensis. I dont think these pictures match, sp[ecially the buds and the leaves edges.
If it will be of any help, i am submitting two more pictures of the same plant

Best Regards to all members

P.S. Again , I am unable to upload jpg imasges. so i am posting them in the pictures section under the heading

Re:Identify this plant - 2008/04/11 20:04 Oh yes! Seeing these two additional pictures,
I certainly agree, dlfcity4 - this is surely NOT a Camellia.

In these, I can see the stems and foliage more clearly,
it appears to be fleshy, as though it could be a succulent?

Hmmm, I don't have another ID suggestion at this moment,
but I won't give up this has me VERY curious.

Re:Identify this plant - 2008/04/12 02:30 Okay, I feel MUCH more confident about this ID now,
I truly do believe that this plant is Pereskia grandiflora "Rose Cactus".

I couldn't see the thorns in any of your photos,
apparently they are quite nasty (the thorns)
as another common name I found for this plant was "Bastard Rose".

I'm like a dog with a bone, zwaluw.
I get very obsessed and stubborn when I can't figure something out,
I have a hard time letting go until I've worked it out.

Re:Identify this plant - 2008/04/16 14:55 Dear friends Zwaluw and Zuzu,

Thanks a lot for your efforts in identifying the plant.
Zuzu, you did work it out , finally.

I know who to ask in future.
Great that you are both available here.

And, I had stolen a stem from the garden where i saw this plant. Made two cuttings and planted them . And now both are rooting happily. Makes me very happy proud owner of the "Bastard Rose".

Thanks again

Regards from India
