Orange petals... any idea? - 2010/10/30 11:22 Hi all, I have recently planted this orange-petal flower. Do you happen to know the name of this flower?

It's a perennial and it never stops flowering. haha. =) It's not scented as far as I know. It grows well in slightly acidic soil and need proper drainage. =D

Re:Orange petals... any idea? - 2010/10/30 18:23 Crossandra infundibuliformis - yours may be a named cultivar, the one that I grow is named "Orange Marmalade". Yum!

Lucky you that this is perennial where you live, it is too tender to survive the winter temps in my garden, so I have to keep it potted and move it into the glasshouse each winter to save it.

Re:Orange petals... any idea? - 2010/10/31 06:22 You're very welcome, glad I could help.

Dratted mealybugs, UGH is right!
I've just found an infestation of the nasty little beasties on my little powderpuff tree and I hate to use insecticide, too - but I'm not sure that I'll have much choice.
I have only a week or two before all of my tropicals must be stashed away for winter, and I sure can't risk bringing in those buggers! I hate to do it, but I guess that I'll either have to nuke 'em or give up the plant. *sigh*

But (given the time), I'd prefer to bring a predator bug into the picture.
There are a number of beneficial insects that you might intoduce, if that appeals to you.
Several are listed at this site
(I'd probably hunt around for better prices, but their info is good ):

Re:Orange petals... any idea? - 2010/11/01 02:30 oohh thank you!! I'm still trying to figure out why mealybugs only attack certain plants. Apparently, the Crossandra that I grew in open light is constantly being attacked while the one shaded isn't!! haha it is rather fascinating but I think it would be too when I bring in just a few ladybugs to feed on them!! haha. thanks again zuzu!! =D
