Wild Orchid? - 2010/09/27 00:56 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvSi0hpe17E

Can anyone help me identify the two plants?

1) The yellow flower in the foreground looks like an orchid and has long leaves slender leaves about 300mm long.It grows wild in fields and terraces in Malaysia
and propagates by spreading black seeds.Locals call it "wild orchid" but I am told it is a weed and belongs to the grass family. It is also used for landscaping.
Flower can be up to 25mm in diameter.

2) The white flower in the background grows wild, flowers in the morning and flowers "close"by noon.the shrub is about 600mm high.Flowers are about 25-30mm in diameter.

Thank you for replies.

Can admin pls delete previous redundant posts as there seems to be a problem with my computer uploading images.

Wild Orchid? - 2010/10/04 15:34 Found the answer. It is actually a variety of YELLOW

IRIS that has found its way to the tropics and

mutated. the original plant must be from England and is now growing wild in Malaysia.
The YELLOW IRIS is now commonly used for landscaping

in Malaysia.

Wild Orchid? - 2010/10/07 06:14 The white flower in the background is a herb called

Turnera subulata and grows abundantly without

care in Kuala Lumpur.

It originated from Brazil and is prevalent in India.

Wild Orchid? - 2010/10/23 21:13 I started to say wild water iris, but it doesn't have the long solid pedal near the middle. However, after a closer look, and if slightly mutated, it does look right.

Re:Wild Orchid? - 2010/10/26 04:52 The Turnera shrub from India never ceases to amaze

me.Hardly a day passes without it flowering.

in KL if left alone, vacant lots can be dotted with

white blooms in the morning.

However it is treated with no respect and is regarded

more as a weed. People here have some taboo against

white flowers.
