Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/20 01:19Found in a little San Francisco garden 19 July, this flower is so lovely. I'd love to know what it is.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/20 19:30Many thanks. My photo was too large to upload. If you'd like to see it and help me out, I was able to post it here:
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/20 23:02Ah, yes, lovely. That is a hybrid Petunia, much like the one pictured here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jalalspages/830866792/ I do not know the name of the cultivar.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 01:31Thank you so much for helping me with this. I would like to show you another picture with the foliage, if you wouldn't mind, just to make sure. I thought the flower looked very much like a petunia, but the number of flowers and the foliage made me wonder about that.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 02:08 I'm happy to try and help .. "try" being the operative word. *lol* I have to say that I've never seen this particular cultivar, if I'd ever seen it, I'd buy it in a minute, it's gorgeous.
Okay, the foliage in your second photo certainly appears to be a bit stressed, but I'm still going to say that Petunia x hybrida is my best guess.
And let me share another pic with you, *hehee* this one is from the same album on Flickr, and it shows a bunched head of flowers, much like in your pic. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jalalspages/710648427/ It almost looks like the pic could have been taken in the same location as yours.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 02:13Isn't it a gorgeous plant? I too thought it was a petunia when I saw it, tho I have never seen a tall one like this. It's so fun to share my love of these beautiful plants with someone who enjoys them as much as I do.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 17:26It truly is very lovely. Although they aren't as commonly seen as the mounding or cascading types, there are some Petunias which fall into the catagory "upright".
I'm still hoping to come across the cv name of this one, but I've had no luck so far. May I ask where your photo was taken? Was it taken in a public garden, by any chance?
And yes, I agree, chatting about plants with fellow plant-lovers is a real pleasure.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 17:34I moved to SF 4 years ago from New Orleans. I love plants and met many new ones here. I have taken to keeping my camera in my car, so I can take pictures when I see something new to me or particularly beautiful. This was in a little space by someone's stairs, a plot about 2 feet by a foot and a half.
Re:Can you please help identify this beautiful flower - 2009/07/21 18:08Ahh, you must be finding some fantastic photo ops in a place as beautiful as SF!
It's such a great habit to carry your camera, and I'm ashamed to say that I have fallen out of the habit. It makes you see the world in a new way, having a camera along seems to sharpen your eye for those little gems that are always all around us. Like noticing this charming plant tucked into a tiny space by the stairs.
