Flower found in Southern China - 2009/05/04 04:55 Taking a walk on a rainy and overcast day last November in Qingyuan, Guangdon Province, Southern China, I spotted this lonely beauty. It was hanging about 2.5m above ground. It was the only blossoming plant I found there around. I took the shot from below against the overcast and overexposed sky.
Can anyone identify it?

I tried uploading the flower image unsuccessfully 2 times. Now I try something different:

Flower found in Southern China - 2009/06/12 05:28 No one has got any answer?? Could it be some sort of Chorisia? I know that Chorisia have usually 5 petals and this one has got six...but the colors and shapes are very similar.

Re:Flower found in Southern China - 2009/06/12 18:53 Oh, sorry, I had made a reply to your picture in our site photo album:
I believe this is Chorisia speciosa (also known as Ceiba speciosa) - commonly called "Silk Floss Tree" or "Bombax"
The difference in petal count could, perhaps, be an anomaly,
such things are not unusual in many species.
