Any idea awhat this flower is?

What am I? - 2009/03/12 23:37 I have this flower currently on my desk at work. It was potted downstairs in the foyer and when they changed over the plants, the florist was throwing these away, so I snagged one. However, I have no idea what it is, therefore do not know what care it requires. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it!

What am I? - 2009/03/13 00:09 Beautiful Plant, that plant you have is a bromeliad related to pineapple. They like water but not too much and are very hardy plants.... The purple/ magenta part is not flowers but actually leaves later you will see flowers from a stalk.

I agree with Diamond76. I have seen this plant a lot of times (but never knew the name or cared to find out) -

What am I? - 2009/03/13 16:41 Thank you for your help!

I agree; it's really pretty and I love the color, but I had no idea what it was, or how to care for it and I was afraid that, with my luck, I'd kill it instantly. But now I can research and make sure I do everything as needed.

Thanks again!

What am I? - 2009/03/15 00:58 Bromeliads are gorgeous but there are so many different kinds. In fact I recently found one the leaves are a nice lush green but hte flowers are a deeper magenta with round club like little spikes with a white/periwinkle tip. I will try to post a pic.
